GW's treasurer, Misty Granade, and fellow board member, Ellen Sechrest, are headed to Haiti on Monday!
Hear from Misty:
Next week I'll see Carnival, Fat Tuesday & Ash Wed in Haiti. I am already meditating on Lenten practice in the midst of so much need. I am excited to be traveling to Haiti next week with Ellen, fellow GW board member; Nathan, the filmmaker from Lantern Vision; and Girija from Global Health Action to meet the Trained Birthing Attendants in person and attend a TBA monthly meeting! We will be filming a short piece to show the GW family what it's like to travel to Haiti and get a glimpse of a TBA's daily work.Every day approximately 800 women die from preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth. Sadly, Haiti has the highest maternal mortality ratio in the Western Hemisphere. I am so proud that Global Women is assisting GHA in the fight to reduce these horrifying statistics in Haiti. I hope you will join me in prayer for the work that GHA is doing with the TBA program and the work these TBAs are doing in their communities. Pray for the TBAs as they travel monthly to Petit Goave (a port town on the northwestern coast) for their training meetings and as they travel in and around their communities to help laboring women. Pray for the expectant mothers that these TBAs assist.
