nepal team nov. 2

My thoughts and prayers have been directed more intensely these past two weeks to Nepal where a Global Women team has been leading sewing seminars for leaders of the 777 Sewing Centers. These programs are organized by our global partner, Sangte. Also in these past weeks, my heart has been so full as I think of the many people who have chosen to stand with Global Women financially so that we can stand with Sangte and these women she serves.  When you give a gift to Global Women, it is used with our global partners to help change a woman's story in places like Nepal, Central Asia, Moldova, Myanmar, and Haiti.  I can say "thank you" a million times, but perhaps it would never seem as sincere as when I heard these words from one of the students during my visit this summer to the Imadol Sewing Center. Maya Tamang heard about the sewing training opportunity through her local church. She had always dreamed of having a chance to learn to sew, but thought it was only a dream.  In Nepal, if a person can sew, then they can get a job in a tailor shop or they can sew at home for their family and for their neighbors.  Also in Nepal, having a skill is equal to having worth. But, it costs much money to train for a skill, and she had no money. Maya beams when she talks about how fortunate she is to have this opportunity to learn to sew.  She is working hard to complete the course, and hopes one day to have her own machine. She may even open her own sewing shop! She thanks God and Global Women for this wonderful opportunity to gain a skill, to gain worth, and to stand confidently in her community! From Maya and the other women whose life stories are changing because they have the opportunity to learn the skill of sewing, Dan-ye-bat (thank you!)
