Merry Christmas! Will you join us each day this week as we pray about the five issues that Global Women seeks to address: sex trafficking, clean water, maternal health, education and economic empowerment. Today we are praying about maternal health. Women are dying every day due to the lack of access to good maternal healthcare. Skilled care before, during, and after childbirth can save women's lives. Join us today in praying this prayer written by GW Associate Director Trudy Johnson. A poor woman gives birth, perhaps unattended, and feels relief when she hears her baby cry. Oh, God, is the experience of poor women in the rural, mountainous areas of Haiti like Mary's? Our lives are forever changed because her baby lived! Thank you, for Jesus. And thank you for the 64 Trained Birth Attendants (TBA) in Haiti, and Mirlaine, who equips them to increase the number of healthy mothers and babies in this country with the highest maternal mortality ratio in the Western Hemisphere. During this Christmas season, when we are flooded with images of Mary with baby Jesus, may we be mindful of the needs of vulnerable pregnant women and their newborns worldwide. Amen.
