During the month of September, I have been celebrating my 7th anniversary as director of Global Women -my how time flies when you are having fun! Recently, I had the chance to do a little celebrating (and some work!) in St. Louis with a dear friend of mine, and a dear friend of Global Women. Allow me to introduce you to Nell Lockhart.  She and I were both brand new to GW 7 years ago when we met at our first board meeting in Winston-Salem, NC.  She was beginning her first term of service on the GW board, and I was beginning as the director. During our recent visit together, we reminisced about how far the organization has come, and how much we've learned about leading a Christian nonprofit organization and connecting and empowering women who are transforming our worlds! We know it "takes a village to raise a child," and I know the entire board has helped to "raise" and encourage this director, but Nell is special. nell

With her background in nonprofit work, event planning and board service, she has provided a wealth of information and advice for me. And, with her loving, Christian heart she has listened to me when I was overwhelmed, prayed for me and constantly been a source of wise encouragement. We have much in common, including our love for ice cream and for the color RED!  Nell treated me like a queen when I stayed at her home last week -a warm and welcoming place, overflowing with God's presence, where I feel so at ease when I'm traveling away from my home. I know that Nell loves me, and that means the world to me! Nell also loves Global Women!  She is passionate about our mission of connecting with and empowering indigenous Christian women leaders and she wants others to feel the same!  She tells me often how important it is to "keep Global Women in their face" as she describes her tactic of informing her church family at Kirkwood Baptist of the latest GW news. Nell also puts her money where her heart (and her mouth) is!  She has been a faithful financial supporter of Global Women for more than 10 years, and has been instrumental in bringing many of her friends into the circle of donors as well. Though she completed her service on the GW board last year, she remains committed to the organization in many ways. There are many great reasons to attend our next Global Women Summit in St. Louis. You will see a beautiful city, learn more about global issues impacting women and how you might respond, and spend time with old and new friends.  But  in my opinion, one of the best reasons to attend the Global Women Summit is to meet my dear friend, Nell Lockhart!  As you experience the Summit with Nell, in her home city, perhaps you will gain a better understanding of why Nell loves Global Women so much, and why we love Nell!
