From Global Women’s Executive Director, Stacy Blackmon:

The entire Global Women community is heartbroken by the death of our friend and colleague, Nell Lockhart. For a decade, she helped lead the organization as a Director of our governing Board, an inaugural member of our Advisory Board, and a driving force behind the MO Global Women Group, which she started at her church. Nell’s passion for serving others was an inspiration to all. Because of her exemplary leadership and abundant love, she was the first person to receive Global Women’s Global Heart Award. I know all Global Women supporters join me in sending sincere condolences to her family. Nell was a remarkable women and gifted leader who will be missed.

Former Global Women Board President, Kristin Rogers, also reflected on Nell’s life and work:

Nell Lockhart was at first, a voice to me on the phone. I had been nominated for the Board of Global Women and she called to interview me. She was kind and thorough, direct and encouraging. I had her pictured in my mind, a tall, skinny woman, perhaps with a cigarette holder, all business and elegant and amazing. Imagine my surprise to meet short, white-haired Nell with her colorful hats and personality. We became friends and I quickly grew to adore her. Her passion for Global Women, for life, for ministry, for women, for Christ, for all of life, was infectious. Nell always wanted time for a visit and when I came to visit Kirkwood, she was the most gracious host. Nell adored her family. When I traveled through Columbia, Nell insisted that I must stop and meet Leigh and enjoy her restaurant. Of course I did because I always obeyed Nell – who would dare resist that beautiful heart? What a joy to meet Leigh and to see in her so much of the beauty and life of her mother. I will treasure fond memories of Nell’s laughter. I will aspire to live up to her vision and passion. I will reflect on her lessons and experience in leadership as I continue to grow in my own leadership. I will always remember her life and gifts to Global Women and to me.
